Made for Community

long, long time ago – long before you and me, before Smart Phones and computers, automobiles and trains, back before chariots and horses and even time itself… there was God.  For countless eternities of time past, God exists.  In three persons He exists – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  One God, three Persons, living in perfect harmony, perfect unity, perfect community.  In fact, God is community.  He always is, was and will be a perfect community.  That is our God.  That is His essential nature.

In the Godhead there is completeness and sufficiency, coherence of purpose, submission and cooperation – as each person does His part.  And above all and in all, to make their fulfillment, joy and pleasure in community complete, there is an unspeakable, incomprehensible love shared among the persons of the Trinity.  A love shared by the Authors of love – those who in and of themselves are love – that is integral to everything this community does and seeks to accomplish.

This love moved them to action – to design and created the heavens, the earth, and all that is in them.  And at the very top, the very pinnacle of all they created, there is man.  Man has the special distinction of being created in the image of God.  We read in Genesis 1:  “Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” (Gen 1:26-27 NIV)

Now while being created in the image of God means many things, one very prominent one is that we are created for community.  Just as God is and dwells forever in perfect community, so we are made for community – it is in our design, our DNA, our wiring from Our Creator.  He is a community, and made in His image, we are made for community.  A simple glance at our world demonstrates this.  We live and organize ourselves into families, tribes, clans and nations.  We join gyms and clubs, gangs and teams – groups of all kinds.  We even partake in virtual communities on Linked In, Face Book, Google Plus and others – all because this is who we are, how we are made, what we long for.  We are made for community.  We all want to go where everybody (what?) knows our name.

At Christ Fellowship, we recognize this fact and are structuring this new ministry in an old way – nearly 2000 year old.  Our vision is to plant and support a growing number of affiliated Home Churches under the covering of Christ Fellowship, equipping passionate Christ followers.  This community is here for you, so check out our Church Rhythm and join the movement.
