My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations. Mk. 11:17
Prayer must return to the forefront. It has been overshadowed and upstaged by far too many things. I our lives are so busy that our prayers are empty we are non-contenders. Our lack of prayer reflects our lack of concern for the things of God.
A preacher visiting the Brooklyn Tabernacle church said “You can tell how popular a church is by who comes on Sunday morning… But, you can tell how popular Jesus is by who comes to the prayer meeting.” Charles Spurgeon said “The condition of the church may very accurately be gauged by its prayer meetings. So is the prayer meeting a grace-ometer, and from it we may judge the amount of divine working among a people. If God be near a church, it must pray. If He be not there, one of the first tokens of His absence will be a slothfulness in prayer.”
There can be no substitute for prayer, no rival. It stands alone as the one way to touch the face of God and lay hold of His power. Every major revival began with prayer. Every spiritual battle is fought with prayer. Every person of renowned in heaven’s history books has been powerful in prayer. We are never more powerful and never more effective than when we pray. Never is a moment in prayer wasted. We neglect this to our own demise.
Make prayer a priority by making it the first response, not the last. Why languish in your our strength when a few simple words puts God right in the middle of the equation?
Martin Luther “Work, work from early until late. In fact I have so much to do that I shall spend the first three hours in prayer.” He knew the secret of a well-ordered life. Too often we get the cart before the horse. We make our plans and schemes, and then ask God to bless them, and wonder why our lives are out of control. We need to be starting on our faces before God asking Him what He wants us to do. All our activity apart from God is insignificant. It is when God leads, that we make a difference in our world. It is wise to make prayer a priority. When you do, you will begin to move toward true greatness in Christ, understand the price and privilege of time with God and unleash the mighty power of prayer. The
